Our fellow COPS Julius Muschaweck has just been elected as a Fellow of SPIE!

To quote from the SPIE web site:

SPIE Fellows represent the highest level of professional recognition in optics and photonics. This distinction honors individuals whose exceptional technical achievements and leadership have made a significant impact on the field and the broader scientific community. Fellows are recognized not only for their expertise, but it also for advancing innovation, mentoring others, and shaping the future of optics and photonics through their influence and service. Since 1955, less than 2,000 Members have joined this elite group.

SPIE honors Julius’ technical contributions as a widely quoted author on topics regarding illumination optics design, with about 50 publications and 60 patents. SPIE also honors his service to SPIE as a chair of two conferences, committee member for multiple other conferences, recently re-appointed member of the SPIE Publications Committee, and regular reviewer. And, SPIE honors his service to the broader community, by developing standards, writi ng much-needed textbooks, teaching courses, where he regularly provides free access to invited students from developing countries, and mentoring younger colleagues.
